Tuscaloosa County Plane Crash Kills 3 Married Couples
On Sunday, August 14, six people were killed after a small plane crash in Tuscaloosa County. The crash involved three married couples onboard and the incident is now being investigated.
According to initial reports, the plane took off from Kissimmee Gateway Airport in Florida and at about 11:20 a.m., it crashed near Tuscaloosa Regional Airport at Van de Graaff Arboretum Park. The Federal Aviation Administration, who is investigating the exact cause of the crash, identified the plane as a Piper PA-31.
It was reported that just four minutes from the runway, the plane had sent out a distress signal. The crash was a quarter to a half-mile short of its intended runway. According to the Sports Information Director of Ole Miss Athletics, the three men who lost their lives were Ole Miss Athletics Foundation members and the couples were returning from a dental seminar they had attended in Florida.
The six people have been identified as Dr. Jason Farese, his wife Dr. Lea Farese, Dr. Michael Perry, his wife Kim Perry, Dr. Austin Poole, and his wife Angie Poole. All three couples had children, none of which were on the plane when it crashed.
The Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s Department is investigating the scene of the crash.
